Abborresjön

Species

Rainbow trout is the main species. This page is about Abborresjön in Ale, not Abborrsjön in Hudiksvall. Resident brown trout in the lake should, according to the club, be released.

The club writes that they stock during the season. Typical of stocked lake rainbow: they can take close to the bank after release and then move deeper.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

Fly and traditional spin. Bombarda and plastic bubble are not allowed according to the club. Bait fishing belongs to Ottersjön, not here. Float tube only here, with fins, not oars or a pontoon. Read the current tackle rules with the seller before you pack.

Lures and flies

Small spinners and a nymph toward stocked rainbow trout. With spin you cover water with a small spoon or spinner in a natural or signal colour; on fly the float-tube angler reaches the deeper lanes. General species tactics, and therefore not specific to Abborresjön.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the association. The season is time-limited. Check that the permit is open with the seller before you go.

After a stocking the fish often stand shallow and close to the bank, then spread and go deeper once they have settled. Cool air, overcast, and dawn or dusk usually give the best takes.

Getting there

The map pin sits at Abborresjön in Ale municipality, south of Stora Kroksjön. The clubhouse is at Ranneberg, Kollanda, Älvängen. Not the Kroksjö lakes at Harasjömåla.

If you fish from a float tube, remember that it needs an extra permit and fins only — not oars or a pontoon. Kill the rainbow you keep quickly, and release resident brown trout wet and gently.
