Most waters in Smedjebacken are Sveaskog's in Malingsbo-Kloten, and the colour of the permit decides what you may do. The pink waters – Abborrtjärn, Lövtjärn, Mellantjärn and the fly stretch at Nyhammardammen – are fly only. The red ones, Rågåstjärn and Lilla Djurlången, allow fly, spin and bait fishing, and one game-fish permit covers both pink and red waters.
Ljustjärn and the Långtjärn ponds south of Björsjö are orange family lakes with their own separate family permit. Flaten is not Sveaskog's – there you need Barkensjöarnas FVOF's Flaten P&T day permit, sold online and from a machine at the lake.
