Flaten

Flaten is Barkensjöarnas FVOF’s put-and-take lake in Smedjebacken municipality. The association stocks rainbow trout, brown trout and Arctic char. Only a permit marked Dagkort Flaten P&T applies in this lake. It is sold digitally and in a machine at the water. Ordinary FVO permits for Barken do not apply here.

Species

The main species is planted rainbow trout. Brown trout and Arctic char are also stocked. It is salmonid fishing in a named lake, not the rest of the Barkensjö area.

Rainbow trout is fished from jetties and bank. Arctic char can go deeper, especially when the surface water warms. After a stocking the fish can sit tight for a short time.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

The association states one rod per angler. Fly fishing and spin fishing are the methods we filter on. Bait fishing is not documented on the association’s P&T page. Echo sounder is banned. Around the lake there are according to the association several jetties and wind shelters with barbecue sites.

The lake is closed for a period in late autumn every year. Temporary closures ahead of premiere occur — read the seller before you go.

Lures and flies

Small and medium spoons in silver, white or orange are a common start. Arctic char like what comes down. On fly: a nymph along the bank, a streamer over depth. The tips are general for the species, not a report from a single day at Flaten.

Leave the echo sounder at home. Fish a jetty properly.

When they bite

Morning and evening are often best in open water. The association describes the lake as popular on ice as well. The day permit applies until midnight, not a rolling day. Premiere dates and the closure 31 October–31 December are with the seller.

Getting there

The map pin is the named lake Flaten in Smedjebacken municipality. There are other Flaten in Sweden, including in Stockholm — drive toward Smedjebacken.

Choose the product Dagkort Flaten P&T. Other Barkensjö permits do not apply in this lake. A machine at the water is a complement.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. The permit is personal. Quota, max number of permits per day and the child rule belong to the association and they change. Children up to eleven who can cast themselves fish according to the association on an adult’s permit.

The lake is marked as family-friendly with jetties, wind shelters, a machine on site and a clear child rule. It is still deep water.
