Nedre Långtjärn

Nedre Långtjärn is put and take in Smedjebacken municipality. Sveaskog’s family lakes stock rainbow trout. It is the northern of the two Långtjärnarna, formerly a red salmonid lake, now an orange family permit. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

Planted salmonids are what you fish here. This page is Nedre Långtjärn, not other waters in the same area that may have pike or perch as the main number.

The same rainbow stocking as in Mellersta Långtjärn. The map name can be Nedra Långtjärn.

Rainbow trout is the main species, in an orange family water where fly, spin and bait are all allowed. That makes the tarn useful also for beginners and families; see more family-friendly waters. Powerbait is not allowed, so choose lure, fly or natural bait. Rainbow trout often circle along the edges after a stocking.

Lures and flies

For planted rainbow trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is stained. Streamer when the fish hunt. General species tactics, not a recipe we claim is unique to Nedre Långtjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager, not by a bite calendar we copy. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun in small forest waters. Check an open permit, ice and the latest stocking with the seller before you go.

Planted rainbow trout is liveliest in cool water and just after a restocking, and usually bites best at dawn and dusk. In strong summer sun they can go slow and seek depth in the middle of the day.

Getting there

A few hundred metres north of Mellersta Långtjärn, still south of Björsjö. Grill and wind shelter exist in the group. Park where it is signed, not on private land. Fires only on prepared sites unless there is a fire ban.
