Ljustjärn

Ljustjärn is put and take in Smedjebacken municipality. Sveaskog’s family lakes stock rainbow trout. It is not Ljustjärn in Ludvika and not Riddarhyttan’s Ljustjärn. Orange family permit, separate from the pink fly tarns. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

Rainbow trout is the main species, in an orange family water where fly, spin and bait fishing are all allowed from the bank. That makes the tarn easy for beginners and families as well — see more family-friendly waters. If you fish from a float tube it counts only as fly fishing, not as a boat with oars. Rainbow trout often circle along the edges after a stocking.

Lures and flies

For stocked rainbow trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is stained. A streamer when they hunt. General species tactics, not a recipe unique to Ljustjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun on small forest waters. Stocked rainbow trout are liveliest in cool water and just after a refill, and they usually bite best at dawn and dusk. In strong summer sun they can go slow and seek depth in the middle of the day. Check an open permit, ice and the latest stocking with the seller before you go.

Getting there

At the southern end of Malingsbosjön in the eco park. A jetty and a bathing place are on the map. Not the Krampen lakes. Park where it is signed, not on private land. Fires only on prepared sites unless there is a fire ban.
