For stocked rainbow trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is coloured. Streamer when the fish hunt. That is general species tactics, not a recipe we claim is unique to Stora Abborrtjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun in small forest waters. Check an open permit, ice and the latest stocking with the seller before you go.

Stocked rainbow trout are liveliest in cool water and just after a refill, and usually bite best at dawn and dusk. In strong summer sun they can go slow and seek depth in the middle of the day.

Getting there

East of Fagersta. Lilla Abborrtjärn sits just next door. Park where it is marked, not on private land. Fires only at prepared sites unless there is a fire ban.
