Mellantjärn is one of Sveaskog’s pink put-and-take waters in Malingsbo-Kloten, Smedjebacken municipality. Rainbow trout is stocked here. Only fly fishing is allowed. The same salmonid permit covers the red waters Rågåstjärn and Lilla Djurlången and Lövtjärn. Krampen’s permit does not apply in Malingsbo.
Species
Rainbow trout is the main species. Sveaskog calls the pink waters put and take with fly only. This page is Mellantjärn, not Lövtjärn and not Abborrtjärn in the same area. Brown trout in Hedströmmen is a purple permit and catch and release.
Rainbow trout in a small forest tarn often sit along the edges. After a stocking they can sit tight. Do not change places unnecessarily if the fish already show.
Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing
Fly only. Spin fishing and bait fishing are not included on the pink water. One rod per permit. PowerBait and similar PVC baits are banned. Your own boats, canoes and SUP boards are not allowed in the salmonid lakes.
Boardwalks and jetties are mentioned for the area as a whole. Read the map for this tarn. Toilets and bins are for permit holders. The permit activates with a delay after purchase. Buy it in time.
Lures and flies
Nymph, pupa and a simple streamer are a common start. The tips are general for fly fishing rainbow trout in a tarn. Leave the spinning rod in the car. Fish an edge properly.
When they bite
Morning and evening are often best. Stocking is decided by Sveaskog. Check with the permit seller.
Getting there
The map pin is the named tarn Mellantjärnen, Smedjebacken municipality, between Lilla Djurlången and Lövtjärn. Drive toward Malingsbo via road 233 between Skinnskatteberg and Kopparberg.
On iFiske: choose the salmonid permit for Malingsbo-Kloten, red, pink and purple waters. Not Krampen.
Rules
Always check the current rules with the permit seller. The permit is personal. Quota and the fly rule belong to Sveaskog and they change. Children up to fifteen fish free according to the seller when accompanied by an adult with a permit, on the adult’s quota.
