Vitsjön

Vitsjön is put and take in Piteå municipality, at Svensbyn. Svensby Fiskevårdsförening stocks rainbow trout, brown trout and Arctic char. The association calls the lakes put and take. Permits are bought via the association’s page. We do not sell the permits.

Species

Stocked salmonids are what you fish here. Largest of the three tarns, about 20 hectares according to the association. This page is Vitsjön at Svensbyn, not Vitsjön farther west in the same municipality and not Djuptjärn or Nottjärn.

The association writes family-friendly. A trail around the lake, partly boardwalked. Casting jetties, a barbecue kota and an overnight kota.

With rainbow trout, brown trout and Arctic char you fish three salmonids with different temper this far north. Arctic char often sit deepest and coolest, brown trout is careful and rainbow trout the boldest. Because boats and float tubes are banned in Vitsjön all fishing is from the bank, and the partly boardwalked trail around the lake makes it a comfortable family fishery — see more family-friendly waters.

Small spinners and a nymph toward planted rainbow trout. The tips are general and therefore not specific to Vitsjön.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the association. Vitsjön’s winter premiere usually comes later than Djuptjärn — read the news on the site. The latest noted stocking on the site is an example, not the next date.

In a Norrbotten lake the season is shorter and the water cooler, so early summer and chilly days often give more than high summer. In winter ice jigging takes over when the ice carries, and the fishing can be liveliest in the weeks after a stocking.

Getting there

The association’s map at Svensbyn. The coordinate is the club’s view of the lake. Not the western Vitsjön in Piteå municipality. Park where it is signed. Respect private jetties.
