Metträsket at Jämtön is Jämtöns FVOF’s put-and-take lake in Luleå municipality, near the Kalix border. The association stocks rainbow trout and two-year-old brown trout. Permits are sold digitally. Several lakes in Norrbotten share the name Metträsket; this page is the water northeast of Jämtön, not lakes with the same name in other municipalities.
Species
Planted rainbow trout is the main species. The association also stocks brown trout to grow on. Perch may take, but that is not why you buy the permit. The water is described as a spring lake, cooler than a shallow forest tarn in midsummer.
Rainbow trout here is fished from jetties, along the path and — where it is shallow — wading. After a stocking the fish can sit tight. Later they spread and you need a longer cast or a fly that gets down.
County: Norrbottens län. Province: Norrbotten.
Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing
Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing occur, with local limits. The association states one rod for bait fishing, a ban on Powerbait and similar, and that a float tube may only be used with a fly rod. Boats and other craft are banned. Premieres and stocking can close the lake — read the seller before you go.
Around the lake there are jetties and a wind shelter. Visit Luleå notes that the bottom is wadable in many places, so fly from a wading sock is reasonable where you can see it is shallow. Do not wade out on a guess.
Lures and flies
Small spoons and spinners in silver, white or orange are a common start. On fly: nymph, pupa and a simple streamer. General tactics for spring-lake rainbow trout, not a report from a single day at Jämtön.
Leave Powerbait at home. If you bait-fish, follow what the association states that day — one rod and allowed bait, not what you are used to on other put-and-take waters.
When they bite
Morning and evening are often best. A cold spring lake can stay more active at midday than a warm pond, but high sun and pressure from other anglers still slow things down. Premiere dates and closures for stocking are decided by the association, not by this page.
Getting there
The lake sits about fifty kilometres north of Luleå along E4, three kilometres northeast of Jämtön. The map pin is the wind shelter at the water. There are several Metträsket in the county; drive toward Jämtön, not toward named lakes with the same name in Piteå or Kalix.
Park where the association directs. Caravans have their own marked places according to the club rules. Fires only on designated sites.
Rules
Always check the current rules with the permit seller. The permit is personal. Quota, premiere prices and the float-tube rule belong to the association and iFiske and they change. Children up to twelve fish free according to the seller when accompanied by an adult with a valid permit, on the adult’s terms.
The lake is marked as family-friendly with jetties, a wind shelter, a clear child rule and the expectation that children can handle the rod themselves. It is still cold, deep water.
