Storvåndtjärn

Storvåndtjärn is put and take in Härjedalen municipality, at Vemhån. Hån-Vemdalens FVOF stocks brown trout and Arctic char. Its own P&T permit. In the tarn there are also pike, perch and whitefish according to the association, but the P&T permit covers the stocked salmonids. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

Brown trout and Arctic char are the main species. This page is Storvåndtjärn, not Rundstenstjärn closer to the village.

Typical of larger tarns: the fish can spread from the stocking bank. That is not unique to Vemhån.

With brown trout and Arctic char you fish two salmonids in a larger tarn than most in the area. Unlike the other P&T waters both boat and electric motor are allowed here, so you can cover the deeper lanes where Arctic char often sit. Brown trout rewards a discreet presentation and a thinner leader.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

Here: fly fishing, spin fishing, bait fishing and ice fishing with one rod. A boat is allowed in this tarn according to the association, unlike most other P&T waters in the area. An electric motor may be used only here among the P&T waters, according to the fishing rules. Boat hire is handled via the seller or an agent in Vemhån.

The association mentions a road to the water, a lean-to, a barbecue site and toilets.

Lures and flies

Small to medium spinners, spoons and streamers are a common start. General species tactics and therefore not specific to Storvåndtjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Larger water can be nicer in low sun. Check an open permit and ice with the seller.

This high up the season is shorter and the water cooler, so early summer, low sun and chilly days often give more than high summer. From a boat with electric motor you reach the deep lanes, and in winter ice fishing takes over.

Getting there

The map pin follows the association’s GPS at Vemhån. A road to the water in summer, ploughed in winter according to the association. Park where it is marked.
