Järpbäcksdammen

Järpbäcksdammen is put and take in Härjedalen municipality, below Högfjället south of Vemdalen. Hån-Vemdalens FVOF stocks brown trout and Arctic char. Its own P&T permit. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

Brown trout and Arctic char are the main species. This page is the dam, not Hanakamtjärn on the same road.

Typical of dams: the fish can rise toward evening after stocking. That is not a promise for this dam.

You fish two salmonids that like the cold, clear mountain-near water. Arctic char often sit deeper and cooler than brown trout, especially in heat. Because boats and float tubes are not allowed, all fishing is from the bank around the dam. In a dam brown trout can rise toward evening after a stocking.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

Here: fly fishing, spin fishing, bait fishing and ice jigging with one rod. Boats and float tubes are not allowed here according to the association.

The association mentions a gravel road from road 514, parking, a wind shelter and a fireplace. The road is ploughed in winter according to them. Temporary closures occur.

Lures and flies

Small spinners, spoons and nymphs are a common start for stocked salmonids. The tips are general and therefore not specific to Järpbäcksdammen.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Evening can be nicer in dams, without that being a promise here. Check an open permit with the seller.

This high up the season is shorter and the water cooler, so early summer and chilly days often give more than high summer. Evening can be fine in a dam, and in winter ice jigging takes over when the ice holds.

Getting there

The map pin follows the association’s GPS south of Vemdalen. Turn-off from road 514 according to the signs. Not Hanakamtjärn by the road.
