Rötjärnen

Rötjärnen is put and take in Härjedalen municipality. Överhogdals FVOF stocks rainbow trout. You buy a special permit for this water — an area permit for surrounding lakes is not enough. Not Rötjärn in Ovanåker. Abborrtjärnen in the same FVO is an Arctic-char and brown-trout water.

Species

The main species is stocked rainbow trout. Yearly stocking of rainbow trout. It is the stocked salmonid you fish for, not pike in a natural water.

Rainbow trout in a bounded lake often sit close to the bank after a stocking and then spread toward deeper parts.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

The methods we filter on are fly fishing, spin fishing, bait fishing. Read current gear rules with the permit seller before you pack. A boat ban according to the association — follow the seller, not a forum.

Lures and flies

Small spoons and spinners in silver, white or orange are a common start where spin is allowed. On fly: nymph, pupa and a simple streamer. Scented baits can be banned — that is with the seller. The tips are general for fishing stocked salmonids.

When they bite

Stocked salmonids are liveliest in cool water and just after a fill. Dawn and dusk often beat high sun. When the association last stocked you read with the permit seller.

Getting there

A tarn at Överhogdal. Its own day permit for rainbow trout. Boat ban according to the association. The map pin points at the named water, not at the town. Park where it is marked.
