Åltjärn

Åltjärn is put and take in Bollnäs municipality. Undersviks FVF stocks rainbow trout and brown trout. Sister water to Undersvik’s Abborrtjärn, a few hundred metres north. We do not sell the permits — buy them from the seller.

Species

Stocked salmonids are what you fish here. This page is about Åltjärn, not other waters in the same area that may have pike or perch as the main draw.

With rainbow trout and brown trout you fish two salmonids with different manners: rainbow bolder and shallower, brown trout more careful and often deeper in the heat. Both are stocked at a takeable size and take lures, bait and fly.

Stocked fish often stay close to the bank after release and then move deeper. Typical of this kind of water.

Lures and flies

Toward stocked rainbow trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is coloured. A streamer when the fish are hunting. That is general species tactics, not a recipe we claim is unique to Åltjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager, not by a bite calendar we copy. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun on small forest waters. Check the open permit, ice and latest stocking with the seller before you go.

Cool water and a recent stocking usually give the best takes; brown trout is more sensitive to heat, so early morning and evening beat summer heat while the fish otherwise seek depth.

Getting there

Next to Abborrtjärn east of Ljusnan. Follow the association’s map from road 83. Park where it is marked, not on private land. Only light a fire on prepared sites, and not during a fire ban.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. Quota, hours, float tube and the rules for children change. Current prices are on the seller’s page. Bring the confirmation from the purchase, stay within the quota and kill quickly the rainbow or brown trout you keep.
