Älgetjärn

Älgetjärn is Dellenbygdens FVO’s put and take in Hudiksvall municipality, Hälsingland. Here they stock rainbow trout and Arctic char. A special day permit marked Älgetjärn — ordinary Dellen permits do not apply. We do not sell the permits. Fly fishing from the bank, ice fishing on ice.

Species

Stocked salmonids are what you fish here. This page is about Älgetjärn, not Älgesjön in the same FVO and not Abborrsjön.

One rod per angler. Typical of stocked rainbow trout and Arctic char in a small tarn: they can stand along the edges after release.

With rainbow trout and Arctic char you fish two salmonids with different manners: rainbow the boldest, char more careful and often deeper in the heat. The method is particular here: fly fishing from the bank in open water and ice fishing on the ice — not spin or bait. Char often take small, discreet patterns near the bottom. One rod per angler applies.

Children under 16 fish on a guardian’s permit in the P&T lakes according to the FVO. Extra permits may be bought when the quota is filled.

Lures and flies

Toward stocked rainbow trout and Arctic char a nymph or a simple streamer in olive, black or orange is often enough. The tips are general for the species and therefore not specific to Älgetjärn.

Fish a bank properly before you move on. Walk the last stretch carefully.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by Dellenbygdens FVO. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun on small tarns. Check that the P&T permit is open the same day.

Stocked rainbow trout and Arctic char are liveliest in cool water and just after a stocking, and they usually take best at dawn and dusk. In winter ice fishing takes over when the ice holds.

The map pin sits on Älgetjärn in Dellenbygden, Hudiksvall municipality. Not Mjusjön at Bjuråker.
