Värptjärn

Värptjärn is put and take south of Härnösand, in Fälleberget outdoor area. Sportfiskeklubben Strömsländan stocks rainbow trout together with the municipality. An accessible jetty. See family-friendly. We do not sell the permits.

Species

Rainbow trout is the main species. The municipality also mentions perch, but that is not the reason for the P&T permit. This page is Värptjärnen in Säbrå, not Värptjärnen in Sundsvall.

The club writes about stocking. Sizes and the next stocking you read with them, not here. Typical of planted rainbow trout: they can take close to a jetty after stocking.

Rainbow trout is the main species, stocked by the club together with the municipality. With an accessible jetty in an outdoor area it is a comfortable fishery also for families; see more family-friendly waters. Perch is mentioned but is not the reason for the permit. The club bans among other things maize, powerbait and roe, so read the bait rules before you pack.

The permit is bought via Swish or the machine on the way to the tarn. Buy it before you fish.

Small spinners and a nymph toward planted rainbow trout. General species tactics and therefore not specific to Värptjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the club. Check an open permit the same season you go. Ice at the outlet can be weak — the club warns about that.

Planted rainbow trout are liveliest in cool water and just after a fill, and usually take best at dawn and dusk. In strong summer sun they can go slow and seek depth in the middle of the day.

Getting there

The map pin sits at Värptjärnen in Härnösand municipality. Exit from E4 about four kilometres south of the town, then about 2.5 kilometres according to the municipality. Not Värptjärnen in Sundsvall.

Park where it is signed. Take your rubbish home. The map is a pin, not a parking map.

Rules

The lake is marked as family-friendly with an accessible jetty and boardwalk. That does not replace watching over cold water.
