Smålandsfiskarna is a put-and-take facility with four ponds at Slageryd, Vetlanda municipality. The operator stocks rainbow trout and brown trout and sells day permits via its own site. Cabins around the ponds are booked separately. You need a valid permit before you fish; open days, times and how the permit is bought are with the facility, not as fixed figures here.

Species

The main species is planted rainbow trout. Brown trout is also stocked. Carp is also mentioned in the ponds; it does not belong to the salmonid fishing you pay the put-and-take permit for, but it can take if you fish with bait.

The ponds lie in forest. The fish are used to pressure from the bank and can sit both along the edges and over deeper holes. When vegetation grows in, presentation gets harder in the shallower ponds – then it is better to change pond than to force the same spot.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

The facility sells fishing in the ponds without listing a method ban on the start page. Count on fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing until the seller says otherwise, and read the terms the day you go. Four ponds give different depths and vegetation; a fly that sinks in one can be wrong in another.

From the bank a light spinning rod or a pond rod is enough. Bait fishing works if the rules allow bait, but leave at home what is banned on many other put-and-take waters until you know what applies here. Cabin guests and day anglers can have different times – do not mix the booking with the day permit.

Lures and flies

For pond rainbow trout, small spinners and spoons in silver, white or orange are often enough, and on fly nymphs, pupae and short streamers. In stained forest water a clear silhouette shows better than an exact imitation. That is general tactics for the species.

Change pond when you have fished a bank properly. After a stocking the fish can sit tight for a short period; then it pays to fish a spot before you move on.

When they bite

Morning and late afternoon are usually nicer than high sun over open ponds. The operator states which hours the day permit covers, not a bite calendar. Season and water level change – check the site before you go, especially if the ponds are described as shallow or overgrown.

Getting there

The facility is in Slageryd outside Vetlanda. The map pin is the village, not a named pond; follow signing for the last stretch. Cabins are booked according to the operator via their booking page. Day permits and contact details are on the facility’s own site.

Do not mix this up with other Småland put-and-take ponds. Four ponds on the same camp are enough for a day, but it is still a private water.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. Prices, quota, opening hours and whether the water is open for day fishing or only for booked guests belong to the facility and they change. Current prices are on the permit seller’s page. Bring the confirmation the seller requires and read what applies the day you fish.
