Skaltjärn

Skaltjärn is put and take in Bräcke municipality, Jämtland. Övre Gimåns FVOF calls Skaltjärn its P&T water with its own day permit. Rainbow trout is the main species. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

Planted salmonid is what is fished here: rainbow trout, Arctic char. This page is Skaltjärn in Bräcke, not Skavtjärn Åsele. The ordinary FVOF permit does not apply here.

Rainbow trout and Arctic char every year according to the association. Typical of this type of water: the fish can sit close to the bank after stocking and then seek deeper.

Lures and flies

For planted rainbow trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work. On fly a nymph or a simple streamer is a start. The tips are general for the species and therefore not specific to Skaltjärn.

Change colour and depth if it is dead for a while. After stocking the fish can take near the surface. Later they often want a slower presentation. Arctic char can sit deeper than rainbow trout when it is warm.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun in small forest waters. Spring and autumn are often mentioned as pleasant periods on this type of water.

Check an open permit and ice with the seller before you go. An empty report online says nothing about today.

Getting there
