Sämsholms dammar

Sämsholms dammar is put and take in Herrljunga municipality, at Sämsholm southeast of the town. The farm stocks rainbow trout and brown trout in fly-fishing ponds. Fly fishing only. We do not sell the permits — buy them according to the site’s page.

Species

Stocked salmonids are what you fish for here. This page is the ponds at Sämsholms gård, not Norra Sämsjön next door. The lake has its own FVOF permit and is not put and take.

The farm writes brown trout and rainbow trout in the ponds. Typical of stocked pond rainbow trout: they can take close to the bank after a planting.

In a fly-fishing pond like this you reach the whole water from the bank, and rainbow trout and brown trout often circulate along the edges after a stocking. Rainbow trout is boldest, brown trout more cautious and wants finer tippet. Because it is fly only you need not think about other gear — but read the farm’s rules.

Lures and flies

A nymph or simple streamer in olive, black or dark is often enough to start for stocked rainbow trout in a pond. General species tactics and therefore not specific to Sämsholms dammar. Leave the spinning rod in the car.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the farm. Check that the ponds are open the same day you plan to go.

In still pond water a slow presentation pays; let the nymph sink before you start to retrieve. Cool water, morning and evening generally give the best fishing, and it can be liveliest just after a fill.
