Mörtesjön, often Mörtsjön on the map, is put and take in Bottnaryd in Jönköping municipality. Bottnaryds byalag stocks rainbow trout in the church-reserve Mörtsjöåsen. It is not the same as the village association’s C-permit lakes with pike and perch, and not Hökensås Abborragölen in Tidaholm.
Species
Planted rainbow trout is the point. Perch and coarse fish can swim in the same water. You buy the A-permit for the salmonid fishing, not for a wild stock.
The reserve has an esker and old pine. Fishing is from prepared places, not from every steep bank you see from the road.
Rainbow trout is the planted salmonid you buy the A-permit for. With several jetties, some of them accessible, plus parking and a wind shelter, the lake works for families; see more family-friendly waters. Stay on signed paths in the reserve.
Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing
The village association states fly fishing as allowed gear in Mörtesjön. During 2026 iFiske has also spoken of any hand tackle on the A-permit — read the seller’s terms the day you go, not an old village page as the only truth. We do not treat spin fishing and bait fishing as given here until the sources agree.
There are several jetties, some of them accessible. Parking, a wind shelter and a dry toilet are mentioned at the lakes.
Lures and flies
Small nymphs, pupae and simple streamers in olive and black are common pond tactics for rainbow trout. Not a lake-unique recipe. Keep the fly out of the vegetation along the edge.
When they bite
The village association has closed fishing for a period in April according to its lake page. Premiere and season are decided by them. We do not copy dates that can move — check iFiske and the village association before you go.
Planted rainbow trout is liveliest in cool water and just after a restocking, and usually bites best at dawn and dusk. Remember the closed window in April that the village association states.
Getting there
Bottnaryd sits west of Jönköping. The map pin is Mörtsjön at Bottnaryd. Follow signs to Mörtsjöåsen and park in the signed place. Do not mix it up with Abborragölen and Skräcklagölen next door — same permit family, different lake.
Permits are sold digitally via iFiske, according to the village association also at Tempo in Bottnaryd.
Rules
Always check the current rules with the permit seller. Quota, gear and the closed window in April belong there. Free fishing for children in some waters does according to iFiske not apply in the rainbow waters — read the exception.
