Lilla Svartgölen

Lilla Svartgölen is put and take in Motala municipality. IF Metall’s fishing area stocks rainbow trout and brown trout. Sister water to Stora Svartgölen, a few hundred metres west. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

With rainbow trout and brown trout you fish two salmonids of different temperament: the rainbow bolder and shallower, the brown trout more cautious and often deeper in the heat. Both are stocked at a catchable size and take lure, bait and fly. Brown trout rewards a discreet presentation and a thinner leader.

Lures and flies

For stocked rainbow trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is stained. A streamer when they hunt. General species tactics, not a recipe unique to Lilla Svartgölen.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun on small forest tarns. Cool water and a recent refill usually give the best takes; brown trout is more sensitive to heat, so early morning and evening beat summer heat while the fish otherwise seek depth. If one tarn is slow you can try the other on the same permit.

Getting there

Next to Stora Svartgölen, northern Motala municipality. Not a Lilla Svartgölen in another municipality. Park where it is signed, not on private land. Fires only on prepared sites unless there is a fire ban.
