Kroktjärn

Species

Stocked salmonids are what you fish here. This page is Kroktjärn, not other waters in the same area that can have pike or perch as the main number. Not a pike lake in the Lisjön group.

With rainbow trout and brown trout you fish two salmonids with different manners: rainbow trout bolder and shallower, brown trout more cautious and often deeper in heat. Both are stocked at a catchable size and take lure, bait and fly. Brown trout rewards a discreet presentation and a thinner tippet. The association has a date-driven season from the last Friday in May, so check the premiere.

Stocked fish can sit close to the bank after planting and then deeper. Typical of this kind of water.

Lures and flies

For stocked rainbow trout small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is coloured. A streamer when the fish are hunting. General species tactics, not a recipe we claim is unique to Kroktjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun in small forest waters. Check an open permit, ice and the latest stocking with the seller before you go.

Cool water and a recent refill usually give the best bites; brown trout is more sensitive to heat, so early morning and evening beat best in summer heat while the fish otherwise look for depth. Early season just after premiere can be especially good.

Getting there

Southwest of Fredriksberg. Not Kroksjön on Hökensås or in Karlshamn. Park where it is signed, not on private land. Fires only where it is prepared unless there is a fire ban.
