Bredtjärn

Bredtjärn is Sveaskog’s only pink put-and-take water in the Krampen area, Skinnskatteberg municipality. Rainbow trout is stocked here. Only fly fishing is allowed. The tarn has boardwalks with casting stands around it. The same permit covers the red lakes Stor-Krampen, Lill-Krampen, Hällsjön and Holmsjön.

Species

Rainbow trout is the main species. Bredtjärn is the area’s only pink water, so fly fishing only. You fish with rod, line, leader and one fly at a time from the boarded casting stands around the tarn — not spin, bait or ice jig. Unlike the red lakes, winter fishing is not allowed here. Powerbait and similar PVC baits are banned. This page is Bredtjärn, not the other Krampen lakes.

Rainbow trout in a boarded forest tarn can sit close to the edge. After a stocking they can sit tight. Walk the last stretch quietly.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

Fly only. Spin fishing and bait fishing are not included, even though the same permit opens red waters where those methods are allowed. One rod. Powerbait and similar PVC baits are banned.

The permit activates with a delay. Buy it in time.

Lures and flies

Nymph, pupa and imitations of land insects are a common start in a tarn with insects. The tips are general for fly fishing for rainbow trout in a tarn, not a report from a single day at Bredtjärn.

Leave the spinning rod in the car. Fish one boardwalk properly.

When they bite

Morning and evening are often best. No ice-fishing season here. Stocking is decided by Sveaskog.

Stocked rainbow trout are liveliest in cool water and just after a stocking, and usually bite best at dawn and dusk. In a tarn with plenty of insects, imitations of land insects and hatching nymphs can work toward evening.

The map pin is the named tarn Bredtjärnen, Skinnskatteberg municipality, east of Stor-Krampen.

With the seller: choose Dagkort Krampen Röda och Rosa vatten. The Malingsbo permit does not apply in this tarn.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. The permit is personal. Quota and the fly-only rule belong to Sveaskog and they change. Children up to fifteen fish free according to the seller in company with an adult who has a permit, on the adult’s quota.
