Rules for put and take
Two things always apply in put and take: you need a permit before you fish, and you follow the water’s own rules. Beyond that a lot is everyday ethics and safety — looking after the fish and staying safe at the water.
Permit and rules
On organised waters you buy a permit that gives you the right to fish. The card also says what applies: how many fish you may keep, which methods are allowed and any hours. Because rules differ, what stands with the seller is what counts.
Ethics — fish decently
Many waters require you to keep fish up to the quota, and fish you keep should be dispatched humanely at once. Artificial lures usually hook shallow and are kinder than natural baits swallowed deep. Quotas: catch quota.
Safety
If you ice-fish, read safe ice first. Never walk on uncertain ice, and never put yourself in danger for a fish. If you are new: the beginner guide.
