Rötjärn

Rötjärn is put and take in Ovanåker municipality, in Alfta FVOF. The association marks the tarn P&T with rainbow trout. A special 12-hour permit, separate from the area’s other permits. Not Klövtjärn and not Bornasen. We do not sell the permits.

Species

Rainbow trout is the main species. Brook trout is mentioned on the club’s map. This page is Rötjärn in Alfta, not other Rötjärn in the municipality and not Gårdstjärn further west.

Bank fishing and float tube only according to the club. Typical of stocked rainbow trout in a small tarn: they can take near the surface after a planting.

Rainbow trout is the main species; brook trout is also mentioned on the club’s map. In a small tarn you reach the fish from the bank, and unlike many Alfta waters float tube and pontoon boat are allowed here, so you can also search the middle. Rainbow trout takes lures, bait and fly and likes to sit along the edges after a stocking. Choose the 12-hour permit marked Rötjärn.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

Here: fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing as long as Rötjärn’s permit does not say otherwise. Float tube and pontoon boat are allowed according to the permit text. One outfit at a time is common on Alfta’s P&T permits.

Children in a guardian’s company up to and including 15 on the adult’s permit and quota, according to the seller. Choose the 12-hour permit marked Rötjärn, not the day permit for other lakes.

Lures and flies

Small spinners and a nymph for stocked rainbow trout. General species tactics and therefore not specific to Rötjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the association. Other Alfta P&T have been closed in winter — check the club page before you go.

Stocked rainbow trout are liveliest in cool water and just after a fill, and usually take best at dawn and dusk. Because the permit lasts twelve hours it pays to lay the session over a cooler period.

Getting there

The map pin sits at Rötjärn in Alfta parish. Not Gårdstjärn and not Rundatjärn. Alfta numbers Rötjärn as water 7 on its map.

Park where it is marked. Take your rubbish home. The map is a pin, not a parking map.
