Gränjestjärn

Gränjestjärn is put and take in Älvdalen municipality, at Gränjesåsvallen north of Idre Fjäll. Lapponicus stocks rainbow trout and the odd brown trout. Permits are bought in their webshop, not via Särna-Idre FVOF. Stocking is paused for now: the manager writes that fish numbers are low and the next stocking is planned for June 2027. The tarn is still put and take, but expect thin fishing until then.

Species

The main species is stocked rainbow trout. Brown trout is mentioned as an occasional fish. This is not Idre Fjäll’s ordinary mountain water and not a Särna-Idre FVOF permit.

Rainbow trout in a small tarn often sit close to the bank after stocking. When it has been a long time since the last fill, the fish are scarcer.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

The methods we filter on are fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing. Exact tackle and how many rods you may take to the tarn are with the seller. Catch and release is not allowed according to their rules.

Lures and flies

Small spoons and spinners in silver, white or orange are a common start. On fly: nymph and a simple streamer. The tips are general for stocked salmonids.

When they bite

The next stocking is according to the manager planned for June 2027. Until then fishing is open but with low numbers. When fish are in they are often liveliest in cool water and at dawn and dusk. Current fishing hours are with the seller.

Getting there

The tarn sits near Gränjesåsvallen north of Idre Fjäll. Parking is a short walk from the water. The map pin points at Gränjestjärn, not at Idre village. Permits can also be sold in Idre Fjäll’s reception when they have them — the webshop is the reliable link.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. Buy the permit before you start fishing. Quota, family rule and what applies when stocking starts again all change. Take the confirmation with you.
