Ekentjärn

Ekentjärn is put and take in Orsa municipality. Orsa FVOF stocks brown trout and Arctic char. Its own day permit. It sits geographically between Lintjärn and Östra Rädsjön. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

With brown trout and Arctic char you fish two salmonids with different habits: brown trout cautious and often along the edges, Arctic char deeper and cooler, especially when it is warm. Both reward a discreet presentation and a thinner tippet.

Stocked fish can sit close to the bank after release and then deeper. That is typical of this kind of water.

Lures and flies

For stocked brown trout, small spinners, spoons and simple nymphs in olive, black and orange often work when the water is stained. A streamer when fish are hunting. General species tactics, not a recipe we claim is unique to Ekentjärn.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the manager, not by a bite calendar we copy. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun in small forest waters. Check an open permit, ice and the latest stocking with the seller before you go.

Cool water and a recent stocking usually give the best takes; in strong sun the fish seek depth, and brown trout and Arctic char are more sensitive to heat than rainbow trout.

Getting there

Between Orsasjön and Rädsjön. A compact tarn according to the map. Park where it is marked, not on private land. Fires only at prepared sites unless there is a fire ban.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. Quota, hours, float tube and the rules for children change. Current prices are on the permit seller’s page. Choose the day permit for Ekentjärn, not the yearly permit for other Orsa lakes; stick to the quota and kill quickly the brown trout or Arctic char you keep.
