Axen

Axen is put and take in Avesta municipality. By FVOF stocks rainbow trout and Arctic char. You buy a special permit for this water — an area permit for the surrounding lakes is not enough. Not Axen in Leksand, Vansbro or Hofors. By socken in Avesta.

Species

The main species is stocked rainbow trout. A salmonid lake with rainbow trout and Arctic char. It is the stocked salmonids you fish here, not pike in a wild water.

Rainbow trout in a confined lake often stay close to the bank after stocking and then spread into deeper water.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

The methods we filter on are fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing. Read the current tackle rules with the permit seller before you pack. An outboard is often banned on this type of water — follow the seller, not a forum.

Lures and flies

Small spoons and spinners in silver, white or orange are a common start where spinning is allowed. On fly: nymph, pupa and a simple streamer. Scented baits may be banned — that is on the seller’s page. The tips are general for fishing stocked salmonids.

When they bite

Stocked salmonids are liveliest in cool water and just after a stocking. Dawn and dusk often beat high sun. When the association last stocked is on the permit seller’s page.
