Abborrtjärn

Abborrtjärn is Svärdsjö-Ågsjöns FVOF’s put-and-take water in Falun municipality, a few kilometres north of Ågs bruk east of Svärdsjö. The association stocks rainbow trout and brown trout on an ongoing basis. It is not Abborrtjärn in Bollnäs, Ljusdal, Timrå or Smedjebacken. Fishing from the bank in the ice-free season. A special permit for the tarn — an ordinary area permit is not enough.

Species

Despite the name, it is salmonids you fish here. Rainbow trout is the main species together with brown trout. The association calls the tarn its put-and-take water and stocks continuously.

Rainbow trout often stand shallow after stocking and then spread. Brown trout is usually more careful.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

The methods we filter on are fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing. The association allows hand tackle from the bank. Ice fishing is not the usual winter rule here — read the seller. The tarn can be hired out on some days; check the association’s news before you go. One rod per permit according to the club.

A ramp, a lean-to and an accessible toilet are there according to the association. That is accessibility, not a promise that family fishing is especially marked.

Lures and flies

Small spoons and spinners in silver, white or orange are a common start toward stocked rainbow trout. On fly: nymph, pupa and a simple streamer. Brown trout more often rewards a quieter presentation. Scented baits may be banned — that is on the seller’s page. The tips are general for this kind of fishing.

When they bite

Stocked salmonids are liveliest in cool water and just after a stocking. Dawn and dusk often beat high sun. When the association last stocked is on the permit seller’s page or the club’s site.

Getting there

North of Ågs bruk, east of Svärdsjö in Falun municipality. The map pin points at the named tarn, not at Svärdsjö village. The association describes an accessible road along the north side. Park where it is marked and take your litter home. Ågs bruk is the landmark you aim for, not Falun town.

Rules

Always check the current rules with the permit seller. The permit is personal. Quota, season and the rules for children change. Bring the confirmation digitally or printed. When the tarn is hired out it is closed for an ordinary day permit.
