Potten

Potten is put and take in Filipstad municipality. Sportfiskeklubben Filip stocks rainbow trout. When the tarn is not hired out, only fly fishing applies. Not Skribotjärn and not the other lake that is also called Potten in the municipality. We do not sell the permits — buy via the permit seller.

Species

Stocked salmonids are what you fish for here. This page is Potten at Åsenområdet, south of Skribotjärn.

The club stocks only rainbow trout here. Stocking follows the club’s plan, and extra fish can be put in at hire. Typical of this kind of water: the fish can sit close to the bank after a planting.

Rainbow trout is the only salmonid the club stocks here. When the tarn is not hired out, only fly fishing applies, so you fish with rod, line, tippet and one fly at a time — not spin or bait. Extra fish can be put in at hire, so the stock varies. In a small tarn you reach the fish from the bank and they often circulate along the edges.

Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing

When the tarn is open for a day permit: fly only. Spin fishing and bait fishing belong to other waters. The whole tarn can be hired — then the ordinary day permit is closed. Check the club’s hire status before you go.

Permits are bought digitally or with agents in Filipstad. A QR code is mentioned in the wind shelter.

Lures and flies

Nymph, pupa and a simple streamer are a common start for stocked rainbow trout. General species tactics and therefore not specific to Potten. Leave the spinning rod in the car when the day permit applies.

When they bite

Stocking is decided by the club. Morning and evening are often nicer than high sun on a small forest tarn. A hired day shows with the seller, not on this page.

Stocked rainbow trout are liveliest in cool water and just after a fill, and usually take best at dawn and dusk. Check the club’s hire status before you go, so the day permit applies that day.

Getting there

From Filipstad toward Persberg, exit toward Åsenområdet. Signed Potten. Parking at the tarn according to the club’s map. Not Skribotjärn a few hundred metres north.

Park where it is marked. Fires only at prepared sites unless there is a fire ban. The map is a pin, not a parking map.
