Butorpsdammen is put and take in the village of Butorp, in the north of Forshaga municipality. Butorps byalag stocks rainbow trout, and if you also fish brown trout the same permit applies. The pond sits in Skymmelån. You buy the permit on the village association’s page, not with a general FVOF permit for Klarälven.
Species
Rainbow trout is the main species, stocked for the fishing. Brown trout is mentioned in the association’s rules, so count on both. This is not a wild water where you go for pike first. In a small pond stocked fish often stay close to the bank the first days after a stocking and then move out toward deeper drops and the side that has shade.
Because the water is confined and easy to walk around, you reach most spots from the bank. Change bank rather than stand still the whole session if it is dead where you first put in.
Fly fishing, spin fishing and bait fishing
The association allows fly fishing and spin fishing. One spin or fly rod at a time. Bait fishing is not listed as allowed on their page, so leave bait at home until you have read that it has changed.
A light spinning rod and short casts are enough. On fly a short line gives more control along the pond edge than a long spey cast you have no room for. Current tackle rules are with the seller before you pack.
Lures and flies
Small spoons and spinners in silver, white or orange are a common start toward stocked rainbow trout. On fly: nymph, pupa and a simple streamer. The tips are general for the species and therefore not specific to Butorpsdammen. Scented baits and the number of rods may be restricted — that is with the association.
When they bite
Stocked salmonids are liveliest in cool water and just after a stocking. Dawn and dusk often beat high sun. The association publishes season and hours on its salmonid page; they do not say when they last stocked. Check that page before you go, not an old post.
Getting there
Butorp is in northern Forshaga municipality. From road 62 you drive through Olsäter and turn off toward the village over Klarälvsbanan, then a narrow road through the forest. The map pin points at the village by the pond, not at Forshaga town. Park where it is marked at the fishery. Keep the lean-to and path tidy.
Rules
Always check the current rules with the permit seller. The permit is personal. Quota, minimum size, season and how many permits you may buy per day change. Bring the confirmation. Other waters in the municipality, for example Klarälven, have their own permits and do not apply in this pond.
