Harasjömåla Fiskecamp

Harasjömåla Fiskecamp sits in a quiet forest landscape in north-west Blekinge, a bit outside Olofström, and is one of southern Sweden’s most complete sport-fishing areas. Here a whole system of lakes of different character is gathered plus a built stream stretch, and with both camping and cabins on site it works as well for a day trip as for a whole fishing holiday with the family.

Water for every taste

The fine thing about Harasjömåla is the breadth. You can choose easy fishing with a fair chance, or a real challenge, often in the same weekend.

  • Put-and-take lakes such as Björnagylet, Station, Mellanbäckasjön and Stora and Lilla Krokasjön are easy to reach and perfect for the family or anyone who wants a high chance of a catch.
  • Hire lakes and special waters such as Aspegyllet, Lilla Vångagylet and Norra Bäckasjöar offer more demanding fishing with limited access.
  • Natural waters such as Fillesjön, Gillesjön and Raslången hold wild fish such as pike and perch, a pleasant break from rainbow trout.
  • Flugströmmen, a built stream stretch of about 1.1 kilometres, opened in 1988, is made for fly fishing and is normally booked at least a day in advance.

Species

The main species in the stocked waters is rainbow trout, and brown trout is there as well. In the natural waters you fish wild fish such as pike, perch and whitefish instead, which gives the area a pleasant variation beyond classic put-and-take fishing.

Methods

Almost everything works here. Fly fishing with nymph, streamer and dry fly suits both the lakes and Flugströmmen, spinning with small to medium spoons is effective on the put-and-take lakes, and bait fishing is always a reliable choice. On some waters a float tube is allowed as well, which opens more of the lake. If you want to prepare, see flies for put and take and best lures for rainbow trout.

Lodging and practical

Harasjömåla has a popular campsite with around a hundred pitches, many with electricity, and a cabin village with cabins of varying size. Staying on site makes it easy to fish early morning and late evening, when rainbow trout is most active. You buy the fishing permit per water, and current prices, rules and booking of Flugströmmen you find on the camp’s own site. The season is mainly spring to autumn, with limited winter fishing.
